Highlights
The app was sccessfully launched in Brazil and Aruba, resulting in increased user adoption and market presence, and collecting thousands of new verified POIs.
Explorers is a mobile app designed for field agents across LATAM to validate and collect data on local businesses to earn money. With a flexible workflow and country-specific logic, it empowers teams to gather structured information in complex regulatory environments, online and offline.
The app was built to bridge gaps in coverage, language, and usability, replacing outdated survey tools with a responsive, intuitive experience.
How do we design a system that adapts to changing regional rules, supports structured input, and keeps agents productive and engaged even when connectivity is limited?
We embedded ourselves in the field, working alongside agents to document their pain points. Through interviews, shadowing, and testing mockups in live environments, we learned how workflows broke down and where interventions would matter most.
We also mapped the full data lifecycle, from collection to review, to identify which moments needed more structure, and which needed flexibility.
Each country had its own requirements, from business categories to legal requirements.
Clients often requested data tailored to their own criteria, requiring the creation of unique projects with custom inputs and logic.
Long forms made data entry tedious on mobile. Many users struggled to stay engaged or complete entries because of connection issues.
With no in-app safeguards, it was hard to detect fake entries or spot patterns that suggested unreliable data.
A hypothesis
Design for structure without slowing people down.
We hypothesized that small guidance cues, smart defaults, and a forgiving UI would reduce errors without increasing time per task.
Dynamic Forms
Built form structures that changed based on country, legal type, or user input, while keeping the interface simple and readable.
Location Mapping
Introduced an interactive map flow for selecting and verifying business coordinates, reducing mismatches and missed records.
Form Feedback
Added in-form error states, nudges, and progress markers to improve completion rates and reduce rejection.
Project Setup and Training
Developed flows for creating and training new projects tailored to client-specific needs, allowing quick adaptation to different data types and collection goals.
Reflection
Explorers taught me how to design for context and scale. Working closely with people in the field made it clear that great UX isn’t about perfection, it’s about making space for flexibility, speed, and human error.
